We seek exceptional individuals who have a background in analytical thinking and who thrive in collaborative environments.

We have high standards for excellence and look for people who are motivated by that challenge.  We generally hire people who have prior experience preferably in related areas of strategy consulting or analytical roles.

We have high expectations for our people and therefore apply rigorous standards throughout our hiring process.  Below are the minimum criteria we seek in each candidate.  All candidates should have demonstrated analytical and communication skills as well as the ability to work both independently and in teams.

Ryan Marinelli

Ryan graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He also took courses in corporate finance and strategy, financial accounting, economics and entrepreneurship and was a teaching assistant and lecturer. Outside of the classroom, he was a member of the Formula SAE Team, a student-run organization that designs and builds a formula-style race car. In the summer of 2012, he worked in the Noise and Vibration group at Honda’s North American R&D facility, where he participated in the development of new car models including the 2015 Acura NSX. Prior to graduation, Ryan completed a business plan for a company to support the growing food truck industry. Then, after graduation, he managed and consulted for a local food truck company on strategic growth and operations.

Ryan lives in Northern Virginia.



Olivia Zhao

Olivia received her MBA from the Yale School of Management. In the summer between her first and second year she participated in the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute’s Summer Fellowship program and developed a go-to-market strategy for an iPad game teaching children about health. Prior to business school, Olivia managed operations projects for St. Jude Medical, a medical device company.  She led the launch of the company’s remote care wireless capabilities both in the US and internationally, and also revamped its Electronic Health Record integration offering. Before transitioning into operations, she supported the development of multiple releases of St. Jude Medical’s remote monitoring system as a systems engineer. She also wrote program code for micro-stimulators that help stroke patients regain arm functions.

Olivia has bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Computer Science from University of California, Santa Barbara and a MS in Biomedical Engineering from University of California, Los Angeles. She lives in the New York area.


Yan Val

Yan’s career has focused on helping businesses achieve top-line and bottom-line impact through growth strategy development, go-to-market model design, sales effectiveness, new product launch, customer retention, and organizational efficiency. He has deep expertise in the design and execution of large transformation programs, advising decentralized organizations with global footprint. Yan has worked across various industries including business services, communications, real estate, industrial products, consumer goods and retail.

Prior to Blue Ridge Partners, Yan was a Senior Manager with Ernst & Young, where he advised senior executives of multinational clients on a variety of strategic and operational issues. He began his career with Arthur Andersen providing enterprise risk consulting and business process improvement services.

Yan holds an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University and a BBA from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College.

Michael Smith

Michael has over 20 years of strategic sales and marketing experience working with Fortune 500 companies and mid-cap companies to accelerate their revenue growth. He has deep experience in Financial Services, Technology and other industries and developed award winning interactive strategies for companies such as Microsoft, Wyeth, LG, American Express, Amgen and eBay. His executive management experience includes serving as President of Digital Influence Group and strategic leadership roles at Publicis Modem and Visa International.

His extensive business consulting career included time with Mercer Management Consulting and leadership positions with McKinsey & Company, Potomac Partners and Luminant where he was associated with other leaders of Blue Ridge Partners.

Michael received his MBA from Stanford University and now lives in the Boston, Massachusetts area.
